Throughout Saturday 17th June, cadets took part in a number of activities in order to raise money for UNICEF. During the morning of Saturday, around 20 cadets were involved in a sponsored walk starting at Castleford squadron and walking through surrounding area. The cadets walked 13.9km and were supplied with water and refreshments throughout the day, thanks to Anita and Dave; the supporters of UNICEF, and also help from local pubs who provided soft drinks proved a great boost for the cadets.

There was the choice of participating in the walk in fancy dress and cadets turned up dressed as: Bill and Ben; a baby; a tramp; a Mexican; Action Man; a Pink Lady and a hula girl. As well as this activity being greatly enjoyable, we were all aware that we were helping UNICEF greatly. Every cadet involved managed to receive sponsors and the winner of this was Cdt Billany, who raised £98 alone, and with everybody else’s sponsors we managed to raise upwards of £500

 

As well as a sponsored walk, there was the annual summer ball, which would also helped raised money for UNICEF. This took place after the sponsored walk in the evening at Castleford Civic Centre. In addition to raising money, the cadets had an enjoyable night, a buffet was provided thanks to Mrs Clancy. Cadets from 2434 Squadron(Church Fenton) also turned up and joined us at the ball. Everybody had a great time dancing and chatting and everybody looked stunning in their dresses and suits. During the evening, a raffle took place with the money raised going to UNICEF. Prizes for this were donated voluntarily from the cadets and Castleford Tigers also donated a signed rugby ball for the raffle.

With the sponsored walk, the raffle and the summer ball we all helped to raise money and managed to achieve over £500 for UNICEF. With our help, Dave and Anita have managed to double their target money from £20,000 to almost £40,000.
