Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award aims to provide you with an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programe of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach.   

The Squadron are currently taking part at Bronze, Silver and Gold level. There are three sections that have to be completed to pass each section of the award.

  • Service (helping other people in the local community)
  • Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey usually on foot but can be on horseback, by boat or cycle)
  • Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest)
  • Physical Recreation (sport, dance and fitness)
  • Residential Project (Gold Award only) (a purposeful enterprise with people not previously known to the participant)

To take part in the award, you have to be at least 14 years old, though you can start some activities slightly before your birthday. The Squadron's many activities make it simple to complete your award as you'll have the opportunity to usesome of your experiences towards your award.  We'll support you every step of the way and can even loan you the equipment you will need to take part in the expeditions.

    The Award is widely recognized by employers as it helps demonstrate that award holders are keen to take on new challenges, have a higher level of self confidence than their counterparts, and have leadership qualities with the added experience of teamwork.
